Hay Creek Campground and Saloon

Every year We try to participate in the Tombstone Trail. This year we stayed at the Hay Creek Campground and Saloon. We knew about this campground because we saw it the year before while competing in the Tombstone Trail. It's a nice campground on Hay Creek, a few miles outside of Red Wing, MN. There are about 60 campers set up here semi-permanently, and about the same number of sites available on a shorter-term basis. There is even an area set up for people with horses; the campground has access to the Richard J. Dorer state Forest's Hay Creek Horse Trails.

The management gave us a full hookup site that had been vacated by one of the seasonal campers, and we used the patio that had been left behind. We were the only people camping in the whole campground! One disappointment was that full hookups here mean water and electric; sewer is not available at your site, only at the dump station. This meant that we were unable to thoroughly flush out our holding tanks before winterizing.
