Dawn and I ordered a new Scamp travel trailer new in early July 2000 after searching for a reasonably priced used unit for a year. In late August 2000 we took delivery at the factory in Backus, Minnesota. Our 16 foot Scamp travel trailer is large enough to be comfortable, and small enough to tow behind our AMC Eagle almost anywhere.
(we replaced our Eagle during the summer of 2001 with a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 - the Eagle just wasn't quite powerful enough to comfortably tow the trailer at freeway speeds)(Summer '06 Update - We've replaced out Jeep with a brand-new 2006 GMC Envoy Denali! It also handles our Scamp quite nicely, but fuel economy while towing is unchanged.)(Spring '22 Update: We wore out our Envoy over 250,000 miles. Our new tow vehicle is a 2019 Ford Flex, non-turbo, front wheel drive. The Flex does OK while towing, but you can tell it works harder than either our Jeep or Envoy. Despite what the MPG gauge reports on the dash of the Flex, actual fuel economy while towing is the same as previously.
