Here are the steps we take to winterize my Scamp's plumbing.
1 - empty black and gray water holding tanks
2 - empty the fresh water tank
4 - fill fresh water tank with 10 - 12 gallons of NON TOXIC RV anti freeze. In November 2004 we paid about $2 per gallon at a home center.
5 - run hot water at shower until strong anti freeze solution shows up - this may take some time as you will be filling the water heater to capacity (6 gallons) - pump excess into the shower drain / gray water tank. (this will protect the shower trap from freeze damage)
6 - run cold water at shower until strong anti freeze solution shows up - pump excess into drain / gray water
7 - run water into toliet until strong anti freeze solution shows up. Flush into holding tank. Re-fill with a bit of anti freeze to keep seals from drying out.
8 - press in on city water inlet check valve until anti freeze solution shows up.
9 - open cold water valve at sink until strong anti freeze solution shows up.
10 - open tank fill valve for a minute to circulate anti freeze into that part of system. (The tank fill valve is not a Scamp installed accessory - see "Modifications and Repairs".)
11 - open hot water valve at sink until strong anti freeze solution shows up. (this will protect the sink trap from freeze damage)
12 - open tank fill valve (again) for a minute to circulate anti freeze into that part of system.
The water system
of our Scamp is now ready for freezing temperatures. and
winter camping!
